My Full Circle Trip to NYC

Who is ready for a full circle moment? All right friends, preemptively, because I care about you- grab your tissues. Join in on a good, cleansing cry with me, because there are several heart strings at play here.

In the spring, I had the privilege of leading team Love & Light in fundraising for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). I campaigned in honor of my dear friend, Erin, who fought an incredible fight against two forms of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma through many years and a relapse.

Campaigns that raised over $150,000 were invited to the annual research gathering in New York. What an honor to attend as Iowa's Woman of the Year with other top national fundraisers. This was an incredibly powerful experience, as we met with researchers who are developing immunotherapy for blood cancers. The emotional impact of this gathering was profound, as researchers looked at us and shared that it is because of fundraising efforts that they can continue to research for a cure in this upcoming year.

This gathering came almost a year after I accepted my nomination to campaign as LLS's Woman of the Year, leading Team Love & Light, and two hours after I accepted, Erin called me, notifying me about her relapse. Our team qualified for a Top campaign Fundraiser Recognition opportunity. We were honored with the ability to name a specific mission area, meaning our fundraising efforts directly support "Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma - Aggressive in Honor of Erin Barfels."

While in New York, a 20 year dream of mine was fulfilled. When I was a teen, my parents took my siblings and I to New York and we saw the Lion King. It has long since been a favorite broadway show of mine. And on that day 20 years ago, I knew if I ever had children, I wanted to bring them to see Lion King on Broadway in New York.

As "The Circle of Life" began to play, I took a deep breath and allowed myself to cry. Here I was, in New York in honor and memory of my dear friend Erin, who was taken by sickness too soon. The LLS campaign gave me the opportunity to sit alongside researchers hoping and working toward a better tomorrow. And nestled next to my kiddos at the Minksoff Theater, I got to watch as they experienced a beautiful show almost 20 years ago exactly that I saw it with my family. I was here because of Erin, and meanwhile I got to fulfill a lifelong dream- it felt like a hug from my friend.

I wanted to share this, because it's an ongoing part of my life journey I've been sharing with so many. I'm honored for the opportunity to share Erin's story and her impact. To bring recognition and funds to the incredible opportunity that is LLS. And to have dreams fulfilled along the way is part of the beauty and connectedness of life. Thank you, to all of you that supported Love & Light in the 2022 campaign- it is still bringing about profound impact for the families of those who have fought and are still fighting.

FEAR Less

On March 8, 2021, International Women’s Day, a book that I co-authored was released and yesterday, Fear Less WON the Book Excellence Award - yay! “There were thousands of enteries from around the world and your book was selected for its high quality writing, design and market appeal.”

In my chapter, You CAN, I shared three core times in my life that had me second guessing everything about myself, wanting to shrink because of fear and feeling like I wasn’t enough. In all honesty, I could have written a book on each of those and those closest to me during that time keep asking when I’m going to share the gritty details. #staytuned

I do feel that even though not every small piece of those obstacles was shared, I was able to inspire others to keep going when it gets hard.

My co-authors and I were vulnerable and real because if we helped even one person not feel alone, our mission was complete.

Cheers, ladies!

Showing Love and Giving Light

Campaigning this month for Woman of the Year with LLS has been such an incredible experience. I’ve seen so much impact from donations already and every event, post, share, and connection spreads light to leukemia and lymphoma awareness which will in turn lead to a cure.

Thank you to @LLSUSA for highlighting me in Forbes for my #MWOY campaign. Across the country, so many amazing men and women, along with their teams, are aiming to cancel blood cancer.

I'll never stop fighting for this cause. It's such an honor to be part of this amazing class of candidates and to work alongside you guys as Team Love & Light campaigns and fundraises for cancer research. What a tremendous experience this has been already and we're just getting started!

A Lens of Celebration

Did you ever think doing your taxes could be an empowering task? Well, I think it is.

You see, in all the days and weeks leading up to tax submission we spend hours and hours actually paying attention to our finances and for me, this task isn't about the taxes I have to pay, but rather it is about the money I've been able to make.

As I've been pouring over my accounts the last few months in preparation for this project, I've seen all the success of the last year and where my business has taken me - and that is reason to celebrate.

I say CELEBRATE! Celebrate the financial success you've managed to achieve this year!

Running my business has brought a financial freedom I didn't know was attainable for me. When I pour over my family's financials in preparation for tax day, I get to see all the money I was able to bring in for my family. I am contributing in a meaningful way and that feels so good.

If tax season has brought you stress this year, I hope next year you can feel empowered. And if you are looking for a way to contribute to that feeling of empowerment please reach out! I'd love to share what has worked for me and my family!!

Expectation + Gratitude

I've been thinking a lot about expectation and gratitude these days. It's hard to control expectation. I think we create expectations for everything around us without trying on a regular basis. And while sometimes expectation does lead to a matching outcome, it often creates urgency and insecurity.

Gratitude on the other hand, does not come naturally. While expectation rises up within us without thought, we have to foster and nurture gratitude. We have to practice it, like we might practice a musical instrument or work hard at building our muscles to succeed in our favorite sport. But when we do practice it, gratitude creates appreciation and abundance.

I'm working on calming my expectations and building up my gratitude because I'd much rather have appreciation and abundance in my life than urgency and insecurity.

It's easier some days than others, but as I walk in the practice of gratitude I find that my expectations fall away. And instead of expecting things to come my way I find myself thinking about what I can give of myself instead.

And so I'm grateful. I'm grateful for how the practice of gratitude has changed me. I'm grateful for the community I have that fosters this feeling.

And what about you? Do you find ways to practice gratitude in your life? If so, I'd love to hear about what works for you. Have you let expectations fall away and entered into that grateful place? If so, how?

ACV... it's as easy at 1 2 3!

Let's talk ACV - better known as Apple Cider Vinegar - and the amazing-ness it brings do your hair products.

If you have scalp issues, build up, your scalp is oily, but ends are dry and/or your hair just doesn’t get clean, I got you. Here are three products that break down and dissolve dead skin cells and remove product buildup, while removing impurities and restoring moisture.

Purifying Vinegar Shampoo: infused with ACV and potent AHAs to instantly purify oil roots, hydrate dry lengths as well as purifies, rebalances, and soothes sensitive, dry patchy, oily scalps.

Purifying Vinegar Rinse: formulated with amino acids, fruit and vinegar, preserves color for up to 20+ washes. TWENTY! It also removes product build up, dirt and oil.

Scalp Purifying Scrub: a sugar scrub that doubles as a shampoo. It utilizes ACV, AHAs, and sugar to break down and dissolve dead skin cells and stubborn product buildup.

How do I use these?

I use the purifying vinegar rinse to keep my color fresh 💁🏼‍♀️ the best part, it kinda doubles as a detangler. If you color your hair, this is a MUST.

I love the scalp purifying scrub for L because she is an athlete and runs hard. It is perfect for her hair after a weekend of basketball and softball tourneys. The best part, it doubles as a shampoo and if you have a kid, you know the benefit of saving shampoo steps.

The purifying vinegar shampoo is perfect for my whole family after a dip in the pool. It helps to remove chlorine from your hair. And that in and of itself is the best part.

All wins. Message me if your hair could use a little ACV!

Incoming: Hard Truth

This might not be what you want to hear, but it may be exactly what you need to hear. I'm sure your friends and family love and support you, but they just might not be interested in your product. That's ok, really, it is!

And I know a lot of you are fortunate enough to have large families and/or a huge network of friends, but even then, I can guarantee you that those numbers aren't enough to have a sustaining business.

The truth is, you have to get outside of your comfort zone. Making it in sales is a numbers game. There are people out there that you don't know that want what you're selling. If you only talk to people you already know, your business growth will stall, no matter how much of a head start you had.

So get out there. Get uncomfortable. And make it happen.

I'm here to support you along the way! Be sure to reach out if you need help working through more ways to growth!!

Action Items

Do you ever feel like hiding? Like maybe it would be easier to just sit back and let the world happen while you sit and watch from your little hiding spot in the corner?

Well, I'm here to tell you that we are here to DO things, not hide behind things.

I get it. There are so many things that seem to just stand in the way and sometimes it feels so much easier just to let them. But that's not why we are here.

Every one of us is capable. And every one of us has something to contribute.

So what are you going TO DO today??

No more hiding. Only action.

Share your action items for the day in the comments below and let's support each other in making them happen!

The Power of Three

Three things every day - that's all it takes to grow. Choose three things to focus on every day, write them down and then do them. It really is that simple.

I get asked all them time about how I continue to grow my business and it all comes down to focus. I choose what gets my attention every day and I commit my time to it until it's done.

So what are your three things for today? Share them in the comments below so we can all help each other stay accountable to focusing on our commitment to growth.

Soul-Building

"They are able who think they are able." - Virgil

I intentionally work with L so she knows she isn't bound by any stereotypes, that she can be and do anything she sets her mind to.

Do I challenge her to do her best when it's easier to give in to less? Absolutely.

Does that require tough love from time to time? Absolutely.

But, for her to believe in her soul that she is able to do whatever she chooses to do in this world, is of most importance to me. And look out because she is one determined young lady ;)

How you are teaching your children that success is possible and there is no mold they have to conform to in order to achieve it?

Cultivate Confidence

Confidence. I know sometimes it seems like some women are just born with it. They take center stage and everything comes easily to them- so natural, so easy, like it's no big deal to shine. Regardless of what it might look like on social media sometimes, I am not that woman.

I wasn't just born confident. I grew into it.

For me, confidence comes from having and working my own thing. It was scary at first to get started. There were days of doubt and cycles of fear, but as I continued to work it and put in the effort needed to grow it, I saw a shift in myself happening.

I didn't experience overnight success. I didn't see my life change in an instant. But slowly and surely, as I experienced a win, and then another, my confidence began to grow. And the best part? It has continued to spill over into all the areas of my life.

All it takes is hard work and something to call your own you can grow. For me, that was my business. What is it for you?

Faves for my Face

Botanic Bakuchiol and Rewind Age Control Nectar are my favorite nighttime skincare products because they are gentle enough for my sensitive skin and also get the job done with reducing appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improving skin tone and texture, while providing 24 hour hydration.

And I'm all about hydration!

This duo makes a perfect gift for, of course, yourself, but also those who are wanting to up their anti-aging skincare routine.

My PM routine:

•Be Gentle face wash - cleansing twice OR use the makeup vanishing balm as the first wash followed by face wash.

•Skin Reviatlizing Essence: it neutralizes your skin's pH and preps it to receive all the goodness of your serums and lotions.

•Rewind Age Control Nectar

•Botanic Bakuchiol

•Night Haven Overnight Age Control Cream: intensive yet silky smooth and provides nighttime repair, recovery and nourishment.

And goodnight!

Good Work to be Done

If running a business scares you, don't worry, you are in good company. Say hello to that fear and then set it aside - because there is good work to be done.

So what do you say? Wanna join me on the scary path of becoming a business owner? Let's walk it together and I know our hard work will pay off in the end. Connect with me if you'd like more information on how to join my team!
